Project Bike Trip and Ecology Action teamed up to bring you The Two Wheeled Drive, a new kind of bicycle challenge that is aimed at getting more people commuting by bicycle more often. The challenge is for folks to choose two wheels over four while raising awareness and funds for youth bicycle education! In other words, it’s a campaign to encourage and motivate more people to use bicycles to get to and from work, school, the grocery store, or just for fun. The Two Wheeled Drive starts May 1st and ends May 31st. The drive is during our nationally recognized Bike Month (May) to promote bicycle commuting all month! The drive is also held in partnership with Ecology Action’s Bike to Work and School Day!
Similar to the better known walk-a-thon, The Two Wheeled Drive is a commute-a-thon where the ultimate goal is to raise money to teach more kids about the benefits of the bicycle.
This “commute-a-thon” works like this:
Participants decide on a personal challenge for how often they will choose their bike over their car, then they decide on a fundraising goal they would like to reach, then they create a personal pledge page on our online sign up form (this creates a personal URL), then they start fundraising online, then they start riding based on their commute challenge.
AND, THERE ARE PRIZES! Over $12,000 in prizes will be given out to participants for their fundraising efforts! The more you fundraise, the more you win!
One hundred-percent of proceeds from this campaign will help fund three bicycle education programs: BikeSmart! (elementary school), Bike Club (middle school), and Bike Tech (high school).
